Norton Antivirus Activation?

I bought a computer that came with a 60 day trail of Norton Antivirus 2006 (NAV6) well, it expired. Now I went out and bought Norton Antivirus 2007 (NAV7) and tried installing it. First it told me to get rid of NAV6. So I tried, it wouldn't let me for some reason. It froze when it got towards the end, so I closed it out. When I tried to uninstall it again, it kept saying there was a problem and gave me a link. I clicked it and went to their website, right? Well they said I was able to get a free download of NAV7...so I took it seeing if I'd get any luck. Well, I did. This time NAV7 installed from the file they gave me, but now it wants an activation code. I tried putting the code in that I got from the one I bought at Walmart, but it keeps saying invalid code? What should I do?

I thank , You can try again with norton or something else. You insatll a standard antivirus soft ware such as Norton, AVG , Avast ( free antivirus software and Ad-aware, Ewido ( free spyware removers). You can download free softwares at

http://fixit.in/antivirus.html and http://fixit.in/spywareremover.html
check this URL

It seems the problem is you weren't able to completely remove NAV6 which is why you have problems installing NAV7. Norton software is extremely hard to remove. Thankfully, they have developed their own removal tool. You can find instructions and the download at: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsg...

What's the best Linux Firewall and AntiVirus/Antispam Software?

I have the following version of Linux web server rented from my hosting company:

Linux version 2.4.7-10 (bhcompile@stripples.devel.redhat.com) (gcc version 2.96 20000731 (Red Hat Linux 7.1 2.96-98)) #1 Thu Sep 6 16:46:36 EDT 2001

I'm looking to install a firewall software and an antivirus/antispam software on this server. Could you give me some suggestions? Free is better.

Linux has a built in firewall called IPTables and viruses don't do much harm on most linuxes.

Of course Redhad 7 is pretty old. You should have your web host install a web based admin tool such as Webmin or cPanel so you can manage stuff easily via the web.

Or you should quit them and switch to a company that uses more current linux versions and offers web based management.

The only case I would use A/V software on Linux is if I was running a mail server, or public FTP, then I would use ClamAV.

I use Futurehosting and they rock. (Virtual Private Servers)

Sounds to me like you need managed hosting though, or need to learn more about being a Linux admin.

No, this is what you are using: Red Hat Linux version 2.4.7-10 OR Red Hat Linux 7.1 2.96-98 or both. By the sounds of it, you lack the expertize to do this, no offense intended.

Talk to your web hosting company. They are responsible for your site's security.

  • XP AntiVirus 2008?

So, I downloaded the software (free version) onto my computer. Well, it scaned my computer, but I have to get a lisence to remove them. The Lisence cost money. Well, I went to the control panel, and I went to Add/Remove program and I deleted it. Well, It is still on my computer! So, I looked it up on Answers on how to uninstall it, and someone gave me a link to a site that uninstalled it, and in order to do so, I have to install a program. Well, I have Spyware Terminator 2, and it said that the XP Antivirus came up as a virus, so I made it delete it, but it didn't go off. So, now I know that XP antivirus in indeed a virus. How can I uninstall it?

It is a fake. It is malware itself. It is trying to scam you:

    http://www.malwarebytes.org/roguenet.php...

    Your computer is badly infected.

The removal tool called RogueRemover Free specialises in this sort of malware

    http://www.malwarebytes.org/rogueremover...

Use the free version. There is absolutely no reason to use the paid, ''Pro'' version when you want to remove only.

    Good luck.

Please download the free version of Superantispyware. I use this software for years an is well known to find viruses or spyware missed by all others or unable to delete. Download, update and run an in depth scan. Recommend that you always reboot after.

Can I use more than one antivirus?

I have Norton antivirus, but not sure I like it, sbc yahoo has an antivirus that comes with my service, but I have not downloaded it. I do not care if it is free or I have to pay, I just want one that works. Can I use more than one antivirus at the same time ? I use Super Antispy for spywear and it appears to work well, but I am concerned about antivirus.

Can I use more than one antivirus?adware

My computer came with Norton preinstalled. I used it for a couple of months until the free trial ended. I then download the SBC(now AT%26T) Yahoo Online Protection Package. It required me to completely remove the Norton program before it would function. This is because you cannot run two AV programs at the same time. They conflict and provide no protection at all. The two of them can also do physical damage to your computer. (Rare, but possible).

I recommend the AT%26T package. The AV program is excellent and is not an attention whore like the Norton was. The only time I get bothered by it is when it runs a scan. I have mine set to run scans every three days.

It automatically updates. You will see an update Icon in the SysTray when it is doing this. The Auto update feature allows for updates 24 hrs a day.

You will hear negative opinions from people about the Protection package provided by AT%26T (SBC). Most of these opinions are from people who know nothing about the programs and have never used them. I have used it now for almost a year and am very happy with it.

Can Norton SystemWorks (i.e, Norton Antivirus) 2005 work without Norton Personal Firewall?

As you might well be aware, Norton Personal Firewall is an abysmal piece of software.....it hogs up my RAM, takes ages to load up or display an alert when it has blocked something, and always has conflicts with my LAN. I was wondering if I could delete the Firewall alone and try to make the AntiVirus suite work with ZoneAlarm? Would this work? The only reason I want to keep the AntiVirus is that I still have more than half a year on my subscription and the free AV programs out there arent rated as highly as Norton's (the opposite seems true of NPF compared to ZoneAlarm). Can I do this and run Norton AntiVirus 2005 with ZoneAlarm or is it not advisable?

Can Norton SystemWorks (i.e, Norton Antivirus) 2005 work without Norton Personal Firewall?agv

The best way is to try to unistal and do a manual install (not automatic) and dont click to install Nortron Firewall, another way is to see if you can uninstall it sepratley from the ADD/REMOVE programs panel. If you cant you can always Disable it from Running, Tho it May conflict with Systemworks and may end up being glitchy.

To disable, Go to Start%26gt;RUN and type in MSCONFIG then here, click Selective Startup, Then go to startup tab, and disable anything thas says norton Firewall, becareful, since you are still running System works and may accdencitly disable a startup program from that.

Also since your there, Go to Services and Click Hide Microsoft Services, and Try to find any Services that point directly to the firewall software, not Symantec itself. Uncheck those and Click apply, Restart and it should be disabled.

Does invention of virus and antivirus in computer is neccessarry ?

The worldwide use of computer and internet from rich to poor

seems so common and become a petty business. The invention of virus and antivirus can be a part of indirect collection which kept along with the free adult website . The accidental visitor paying the price by taking the bytes. When the website itself is open to all ,does putting virus to control viewers is neccessarry ? Personally I am not interested with such website. But thanks to AVG for helping such viewers.

Does invention of virus and antivirus in computer is neccessarry ?anti virus scan

And yet another idiotic answer from chrishdman. How about this: you try to hack my ***. Why don't you just find out my IP and then hack me? Oh wait...my PC has a firewall that's rated for Fortune 500 company servers! That might do something! (note there is no such rating, I mean my firewall is one used by very large companies).

    To the intelligent asker:

The reason they put viruses is twofold:

    1) It's just plain damn amusing

    2) If the virus/hijacker keeps taking you to a porn site, look at the site for a while. Let everything sink in. See those ads everywhere? Every time someone sees those ads, the porn company gets paid. That's why they keep redirecting to their page so they get ad money.

The virus itself was invented as a practical joke. However, back then, there were no laws to regulate something like that. So people go it into their heads that they could screw around.

Ubuntu, Do you need antivirus, firewall software ?

As you can probably tell I am a Windows user but Ive seen how good Ubuntu is and I decided to give it a go on a spare PC of mine.

Ive got it all installed, which used up some of the old grey matter.

I am however most impressed, especially seeing as its free.

Now to get back to my question.

I have heard you dont need antivirus software, firewall etc. with Linux. Is this true ?

If I do need to install some kind of security, could someone be so kind to point me in the right direction.

    Many Thanks.

Ubuntu, Do you need antivirus, firewall software ?anti virus

You're highly unlikely to get a virus in linux. Here is a list of Linux viruses:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Lin...

If you compare that to the amount of viruses targeted at windows, it's nothing.

If you're paranoid, go to the add or remove programs thing. And search ''virus scanner''

Also, don't log on as ROOT (administrator) when you don't have to. You're extremely unlikely to get a virus though

Ubuntu, Do you need antivirus, firewall software ?auto protect

Ubuntu, out of the box, is fairly secure. The root account isn麓t even activated and there isn麓t anything listening to the internet.

You will find that you can easily add firewall software and antivirus scanners by searching for them in Synaptic (System -%26gt; Administration -%26gt; Synaptic Package Manager) but for the most part you won麓t need them to start.

Firewalls in Linux are actually a small part of a much more powerful tool called iptables. With gui tools like Firestarter you don麓t have to know all the details to get set up but you might be surprised at what else it can do if you take the time to learn it.

    Kudos on a successful start!
